RELAUNCH

From burnished and buffed

Yesterday I was in the shop, using the new store room Neill built for me and and I had this feeling of expansion or not feeling claustrophobic. My experience of being in the shop feels better as I open the shop up more and more.

We are having drinks at the shop to celebrate the return of Corky Saint Clair. May 1st. 5pm onwards.

Light refreshments and dj provided. Door Prizes et c. If you are passing through the city come and say hello.

HITTEN

I love the vocals, the drumming and most of all the confessional, yearning lyrics

Tell me, please, tell me
What to do now, now that I know myself
Do you really think I could rely on this new person I have become
Do you really think I give a damn now that I can do whatever I want

How cool is the video? Its like a thesaurus of indie girl hairstyles. I want to be friends with these women they are so cute. Does anyone know them? I wonder if they like fey, independent jewellery?

Thanks to Elwyn who found this track for me ;O)

BAT

H.A.L.T.

This is my favourite piece of jewellery at the moment. I dunno, there is something so elegant about a man wearing a bracelet.

POST SCRIPT
I was very innocently sitting in the spa at my apartment block when this guy wearing a turban and other accroutrements of some monotheistic religious faith started to disrobe and finally took off his underwear! So much hair. Whoa. Ugh. Wow. Fuck.

I was out of there in 2 milliseconds, in my haste I unfortunately lost my H.A.L.T. man bracelet. So sad.

MAKR

These Makr wallets are kinda cute. Made by American craftsperson Jason Gregory, they are supposed to evoke the kind of old bags and wallets you would find in your grandparents basement - you know, 70s souvenirs but done nicely

I like the size and shape of the leather sleeves. The americana motifs and pattern work are nicely executed. The herringbone on leather is particularly handsome.

Having said that I wouldn't buy them because of the excessive branding.

MEN

People often forget that I come from a screen printing background and that screen print design was my first passion.

Textile design isn't graphic design, which sounds obvious, but often you see big, ugly placement prints, that might be graphic and bold but feel utterly shit as a piece of textile. To that end, I like designing big lacey prints, that feel light on the fingers as well.

Often these repeat patterns look amazing underneath a jacket.

TEEN

Sweet documentary by Nanette Burstein (On the Ropes, The Kid Stays in the Picture). Follows the lives of four american teens in Indiana - The Queen Bee, The Jock, The Nerd and The Art Kid.

At first you are constantly aware that this is a documentary. The kids also seem aware of this and so the camera becomes almost another character in the film - a presence that both records and interacts with its subjects.

Halfway through a new 'character' Mitch is introduced and as he has natural starpower and charisma the film suddenly becomes more compelling.

The soundtrack is also sweet with tracks by The Unicorns, Nyles Lannon, MGMT and The New Pornographers.

KIEL

Forget me knot rings by Kiel Mead.

His trip seems to be about ironic casting of everyday objects, often with humourous results. for example his casts of wads of gum are pretty funny.
